Upclose With Photo Vishal Solanki and his work as Bollywood goes global

It may seem strange at first glance that Bollywood and Hollywood have become friends as hot. the two most important sectors biggest films have always been independent of each other, with a different aesthetic, scenes, actors and audience.

However, after more than a century, parallel to each other, Bollywood and Hollywood are now engaged in a symbiotic dance who has seen Bollywood films become a Hollywood blockbuster Singh is the king of the top box office charts worldwide, and in all its avatars Spiderman victory in the box office in India. Aishwarya Rai makes a cameo in Pink Panther juicy: 2, Sylvester Stallone and Denise Rico Khambakht Ishq made cameos, and Snoop Dogg is a fan boy point to the song Opening of Singh is king. Hollywood is now the financing of films in Hindi, while finance Hollywood Bollywood films.

Cultural imperialism is dead. Experience the culture of free trade.

However, some things are lost in translation, so that increasing cooperation between the two film industries has created a demand for people who understand both intimately.

Vishal Solanki is a filmmaker of talent, youth with experience in two cultures and industries. Solanki began studying photography at the first Indo-American Society in Mumbai and later to enter more than 150 years Sir JJ Inst History Applied Arts, Mumbai (The most famous institution of applied arts in India).

While studying for her BFA, Solanki also spent much time to draw, paint and explore all forms of artistic applications. Solanki graduated from Sir JJ Institute of Applied Arts won 5 awards including the State Prize of the Government of bronze for the best work, the CAG and Big Walter Thompson's bronze Juan Idea of the Year '.

He returned to work apprentice veteran Binod Pradhan renowned director of photography on music videos, commercials, and one of the most successful films in the history of Bollywood, Munnabhai MBBS directed by Rajkumar Hirani. director of photography also helped Kartik Vijay Solanki company in his famous Bollywood Taxi No. 9211, directed by Milan Luthria.

Throughout the world, has been Director Solanki photography Losing You, a film directed by Canadian director Ian Clay, premiering in 2009.

Outside features, created a stir in the documentary genre, which is almost nonexistent in Bollywood. His work on the documentary Pasha PALV Junior High has received numerous accolades and huge documentary work in female infanticide "Sunaina 'is answered most important film festivals in Europe.

When you knew you were going to a film director?

It happened over time, so I can not give a date. I've always loved movies and was interested particularly by the appearance of a movie. While studying painting Sir JJ Inst Applied Arts, I took a photography course next door.

Soon I can help my older lighting and pictures, helping in the darkroom printing black and white. I took photography as my major JJ. He 18 years and during that time I have seen movies are constantly in search of inspiration for lighting. Gradually, I realized that the film offers hints for me discover the light, along with the emotions of the story. Devdas went out and all of Bollywood was surprised by the images created by Binod Pradhan. After So I had no doubt that he wanted to work and learn under him. I called his home for two weeks straight, making friends with his family, but it has generally been on the set. Finally one day, picked up the phone and allowed me to join him aboard the Concorde study where they filmed a commercial for the fair and lovely cream. I would say that, after filming, I had no doubt that photography is what I wanted to do.

Is there a relationship formal agreement between the Institute and Bollywood? Did you know that when he left the university that could work in Bollywood?

Well, I will not say that there was obviously liaison officers, but at the same time people seem to trust the students, no doubt, JJ. I do this in the picture when he was 19 and 20 for large clients like Airtel, Planet M and advertising of many print media. In addition, some former JJ had successfully emerged as filmmakers both in commercials and movies. I just watched them and thought that if I could do it, I could do well. Bollywood I have not tried that one area of concentration because had a lot of media, like television commercials, videos and documentaries which, in essence, not always, but still taste Bollywood the creation of the media.

Therefore, his career began while still in school. What to do then?

I am very happy with the way things happen. I was always the youngest, no matter how established it was. At some time, people told me I was young and had time for formal training. Then scheduled to leave for my studies photography and direction. I received a Bachelor of two of the Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood.

It's interesting, is how to compare and differentiate between Bollywood and Hollywood? Have you noticed a difference between industries?

Yes, certainly. There is a difference of almost everything. Any thoughts. Each path. On a more general is a Bollywood film industry, including psychology is based largely on the feelings and beliefs of Indian culture in Hollywood and is largely compensated more than a basket to the extent that these beliefs are concerned. It is a cosmopolitan mix of writers, directors and other technicians from diverse backgrounds. So I think that Hollywood films have a universal flavor that Bollywood usually because they are made to a wider audience, while Bollywood is for Indian public in India and the rest of the world in general. The language also plays an important role in reaching a wider audience. Technically, it is also a difference in the duration, pace and structure in which the scripts are written. Furthermore, it is important not only Indian public are very different from the rest of the world. Very often happens that a big Hollywood movie made in the U.S. can not do so well at the box office in India and vice versa.

About a favorite director of photography and why?

I admire the work of filmmakers such as Vittorio Storaro, Conrad Hall, Roger Deakins, Christopher Doyle, Pfister Dion Beebe, John Toll, Wally, Gordon Willis, Rodreigo Prieto, Dante Spinotti and Bill Pope. The Director of photography india, I am a big fan of Binod Pradhan, Ravi K. Chandran, Santosh Sivan, Ashok Mehta and Anil Mehta. I think all of them have great skills in lighting and composition course but at a level above, is how to do a script and turn it into a compelling story.

What was the most difficult task he had and why?

I can not think of one now. I mean, of course, there are many difficult things in all our projects, but most of which is provided in pre-production stages. In general I make films in several languages. Relief was no dialogue, while El Buen Amigo has been in Spanish, Pasha PALV Junior High was Marathi and "Losing You" in English. India speaks several languages! It is a challenge for any director of photography, because in the end it must interpret the script and create their own language in the film based on the lights and shadows, where the public can connect on an emotional level. Also I had the opportunity to work with good directors who knew exactly what I wanted I can not think of a story.

What is the future of film and film itself? The near future? In the long term future? What new technologies should be more careful?

As everyone knows that the film is low, as in film, digital technology such as Blu Ray high definition and they are definitely the near future. The beauty of technology is that you never know the long-term future, because technology

always leads us in surprise! One thing is safe, the media will have easier access through the Internet via mobile phones, laptops, etc. appears experience easier.

And what is the future of Bollywood-Hollywood co-operation and co-production?

This is a great fusion of different sensibilities and techniques that come together to tell a universal story of emotion a global audience. India and the U.S. are large areas with cosmopolitan cities and people around the world and different cultures. Indian India itself is very diverse with many languages, dialects and cultural behavior. This is just the beginning and I am sure that is part of an amazing journey!
