Every word counts: Abram and Sarai in Egypt

Genesis Chapter 12

10 But there was a famine in the country. So Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there as a foreigner, was great hunger in the country. 11When he was about to enter Egypt, he said Sarai his wife, I know you're a woman look great, 12 and when the Egyptians see you, say: "Is your wife, then they will kill me, but let you live. 13Say are my sister so she could go well with me because of you, and that my life can be saved in your account. 14When Abram entered Egypt the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15When the were servants of Pharaoh, Pharaoh boasted. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh's palace. 16 and it is good to Abram, and he had sheep, oxen, donkeys, men and slaves, donkeys and camels.

17 But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18So Pharaoh called Abram and said: "What have you done to me? Why do not you tell me she was your wife? 19Why said:" This is my sister Ella, so I took my wife? Now, here is your wife, take her and go. 20y Pharaoh gave men orders concerning, and put it on the road with his wife and everything he had.

Genesis 12:10 gives a brief overview Travel Abram in Egypt. Since the reason for a famine in the country, it made sense to travel to southern Egypt as long as breadbasket for the world knows thanks to the magnificent Nile River. annual flooding of the Nile provided the fertile soil and water for crops.

Many scholars and preachers to point called a singularity in verse 13, "Say you are my sister, so he can go well with me for your sake, and that my life can be saved in your account. "One concern is interesting is not why Abram a question from his wife, but Abram knew how he and his family came so close to the Egyptian royal guard? Having no prior knowledge of this, why not just Sarai must keep their heads covered?

However, obtained in the vicinity of the Royal Guard, which recognize the reality beauty of Sarai and took her to Pharaoh. He also thanked his appeal and brought her to his harem, but not without pay a handsome dowry to Abram.

Once revealed Sarai has a husband, verse 19 the wrath of Pharaoh Abram was asking, "Why did you say: She is my sister, if in spite of that I have taken my wife? "His verbiage is clear that he was taken by a woman. It seems more evident in the following verse where he keeps dowry Abram (Hebrew-recurring reason the Egyptians).

Genesis Chapter 20

Abraham and Sarah in Gerar

Abraham 20from walked towards the region of the Negev, and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While residing in Gerar as an alien, says 2Abraham his wife Sarah, "She is my sister. And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said, "You are about to die from the woman you have taken, because it is a married woman. 4Now Abimelech had not approached her, so she said: "Lord, destroy an innocent people? 5Did not himself told me:" She is my sister? "And she said:" He is my brother. "I did this in the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands." 6Then God says in the dream, " Yes, I know you made in the integrity of his heart too, am I that kept you from sinning against me. Therefore, I will not stop touching. 7Now then returns the wife of the man because he is a prophet, and praying for you and you will live. But if you do not know how to restore to die, you and all who are yours. "8 And Abimelech rose early in the morning and called all his servants and told all these things, and men were very afraid. 9Then Abimelech called Abraham and said: "What have done for us? How have I sinned against you, you have brought sin so great about me and my kingdom? It has things for me that should not be done. 10 and told Abimelech Abraham: "What do you think you have this thing? 11Abraham said:" I did it because I thought, no fear of God to all in this place, and will kill me because my wife. 12Besides, she is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife. 13 And when God had me wander from my father's house, I said: "It is the kindness you do: in all places where we come from, I said: He is my brother." 14Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and men and women slaves, and gave to Abraham and his wife Sarah gave. 15Abimelech said: "My land is before thee: go anywhere." 16 Sarah said, "Look, I give you brother a thousand pieces of silver, is his resignation to all who are with you, you are fully justified. 17Then Abraham prayed, and God healed Abimelech, and curing and slaves to his wife he had children. 18For the Lord had closed fast all the wombs house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

A very similar case in the next chapter 20. Here, Abraham is on the road. As before, he meets a king who feels compelled to take his wife Sarah. This time, King Abimelech of Gerar. As you may have made Abraham and Sarah have changed its name to this event. The episode is clearly a separate and independent distributed region. (The last chapter of Genesis line stakes through their daughters, but is a completely different every word counts.)

When faced with Abimelech ad Abraham's sister Sara, this time Abram did not ask permission to do so. This explains the change with the names of 2 of 3 major differences in history. It Otherwise, the fairy rings of Chapter 12 meeting with the unnamed Egyptian pharaoh.

Another monumental change is that this time the foreign king will explain in great detail that has not had sex with Sara (verses 4 and 6).

When Sarah true status comes to light, such as Chapter 12, King, Abimelech, Abraham dismissed with gifts-herds, officials, money and land. Another unfortunate victim of age, she is my sister scam.

The birth of Ishmael

Genesis Chapter 16

16Now Sarai, Abram's wife, gave him no children. She had an Egyptian slave-girl whose name was Hagar, 2 and Sarai said to Abram: "You see that the Lord has prevented me from having children, go to my servant, can be obtained by the children themselves. And Abram listened to the voice Sarai. 3SO, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai, Abram's wife took Hagar the Egyptian, her slave, and gave it to her husband Abram as a wife. 4He went in unto Hagar, and she conceived, and when he saw that he had conceived, her mistress with contempt.

Birth Isaac

Genesis Chapter 21

21 The Lord with Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as he had promised. 2Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, that God had spoken. 3Abraham he named his son Isaac, Sarah gave birth. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days, as God had commanded. 5Abraham was a hundred years, when his son Isaac was born with it. 6Now Sarah says: "God has done for me laugh, everyone who hears will laugh with me. 7 and said: "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? But I have a son in old age.

But there is a change in history. Chapter 21 Sarah conceived, but with no mention of sexual relations, while in chapter 16 verse 4 of the Bible is very clear that Abram went to Hagar, and she became pregnant (interestingly, an Egyptian woman).

I started at every word thoroughly study this text with the intention to consider a birthright. Academic and author Ahmed Osman believes that the Hebrew patriarchs, a royal birth Egyptian law began when Sarai had conjugal relations with the Pharaoh no name in Chapter 12 of Genesis. Osman traces the lineage of the son of Sarai, Joseph, who argued that had a rendezvous in the house of Pharaoh, and not the interpretation of dreams, but as a rightful heir to the throne.

A careful reading Bible text that vaguely supports the theory. However, to accept the position that we can consider another possibility that the outbreak has consequences. Among Jews, Muslims, Christians and theologians, including B'hai, there is much debate about the son Ishmael and Isaac Abraham was willing to sacrifice. Many others involve discussions as brothers a link is born free and another guy who is the rightful heir and belongs to the genealogy of Muhammad and Jesus.

After each of these stories Sara Sarai on the Bible or can easily be distinguished investment and language, using the assumption of the source document, that each of these stories originally distributed independently. Like the biblical writers sagas grafted into a tapestry that could have tried to combine the different stories or, better yet it can have meant to them standing on their own.

In that writers, editors and publishers have been Pro Hebrew clearly tried to put a positive note, Isaac and his life. You may have even created a fictional story Agar as a cover for a child born in Egypt and brief account of Sarai to Pharaoh. Not that the Great-of-a flight, or fictionalization amazing that the concept of sharing a servant of procreation was a known and widespread in the ancient Near East (See story Jacob, your kids, the 12 tribes of Israel, are conceived and born between two women and two maids).

Taking into account all the above information, one wonders in fact, had two kids? It is more than probable that Ishmael and Isaac are the same thing. To answer the above questions and others do not need to travel abroad and excavation blisters in the arid desert. We do not need objects or tangible objects. We trust the Bible as our main source. I invite you to investigate or yourself. Take a Bible and read carefully in its in-depth study of Genesis and remember every word counts.
