Hawaii is officially known as the Aloha State, and probably travelers to the islands will soon learn the meaning of Aloha. Perhaps the word most famous in the Hawaiian language, but its significance is not understood by many visitors. Aloha has many different meanings in Hawaiian culture, including hello, goodbye and love, among other uses. Many greetings to incorporate every day, this word, as Aloha Kakou, which results in greeting between you and I. Aloha "Loa damage" means sincerely and with love. "EA Aloha e 'refers to greet you, and is often followed by the name of the person.
Other Hawaiian words is likely to hear of his travels include hula, a traditional dance, often at a luau, or Hawaiian party. The luau is very likely to hear ukulele music (played on an instrument of small guitar-like) and Meles, who are traditional chants and songs. Often, guests receive a lei luau, or a crown given flowers as a sign of welcome. At the luau, we're sure you will enjoy many Ono (delicious) foods, such as points of interest, a dish composed taro.
In other words, you can hear in Hawaii include "Kane" (man), "wahine" (female), "Keiki" (Children), "wailele (waterfall)," Mauna "(mountain), and 'Aina (land or earth). Mahalo means thank you, everything is O'Hana of family. Hawaiian define family in a much broader sense than most people on the continent after his stay in the islands, is considered as part of the O'Hana, or community.
Before contact with Europeans, had no written language Hawaii. Written language began to develop From 1778, when British explorer James Cook was the first European to visit islands. There is only twelve letters of the alphabet letter of Hawaii. After the arrival of missionaries in the 1820s, the Hawaiian language dictionaries have been developed to enable them to publish a Bible in the preaching of Hawaii and Hawaiian. From 1834 to 1948, newspapers Hawaiian language and other printed materials have been published, and many Hawaiians learned to read and write their language. Gradually, however, schools started to introduce the English language and Native Hawaiians over learned to speak English, or in addition to or instead of his native Hawaii.
Today, the language you hear when you visit Hawaii is primarily English, traditional Hawaiian words and phrases impregnated. The Hawaiian language is spoken by all islanders. Now, it is estimated that only about nine thousand People can speak fluent Hawaiian, although almost all local places of the islands are named in Hawaiian. While Hawaii is the official state language, is also in danger of extinction because very few people speak. However, many Native Hawaiians are learning the Hawaiian language as an attempt to reconnect with their ancestral culture and history. There is an island of Hawaii, Hawaii Nihau place remains the predominant language. But rarely see tourists on this side of Hawaii, the island is private property and tourism has been fired to allow for more traditional life for the inhabitants.
